The question

Where the parish's poor law records went after 1834. They are not in the county record office and were assumed destroyed.

What took three years

Searching the wrong county, because a nineteenth-century index entry was wrong and I trusted it for two and a half years.

What finished it

A reader who had seen a similar entry elsewhere and recognised the error. Two weeks after their letter the records were located.
