Costs

Three hundred and ten pounds an issue, itemised

Readers who support this ask where it goes. Per issue, that is travel, archive access fees, photography, and about forty pounds of software and hosting.

The largest cost

Archive access, at about a hundred and ten pounds an issue. Two of the three archives I use charge per visit and one charges per image.

Travel

About ninety pounds, almost all fuel and parking. Roughly four hundred miles a month, mostly to record offices.

What is not included

My time, which is unpaid. If it were paid at the rate I pay my researcher, each issue would cost about a thousand pounds.
