About the images

Cropped and levelled, and nothing added or taken away

Photographs in a piece about evidence ought to be evidence. Cropping and exposure are adjusted; nothing is added, removed, generated, or composited, ever.

What is done

Cropping, straightening, and exposure adjustment. That is the whole list and it is the same list a darkroom would have offered.

What is not

Removing objects, adding sky, compositing two frames, or generating anything. If an image is ever generated it will be labelled in the caption.

Archive images

Reproduced as they are, including damage and staining. A cleaned-up archive image is a different document from the one that exists.

Original files for any photograph here are available to anybody who asks, free, including for publication.
