Gleaning day

The access exists because one farmer allows it, and it can end

Gleaning depends entirely on a farmer's goodwill. One group leaving a gate open ends the arrangement for everybody, permanently.

What we do

Harvest what the machines left. Last time, eleven of us recovered about four hundred kilos of parsnips in three hours.

Where it goes

Two food banks and the community fridge, the same day. Nothing is sold and nothing goes to anybody's own kitchen.

The rules

Gates as you found them, park where told, and off the field when asked. Non-negotiable, because the whole arrangement rests on them.
