You will attend cardiac arrests, and most of them do not survive
What the role is
Responding to nearby emergency calls when on shift, arriving before the ambulance, and starting treatment. Usually four to eight calls a month.
The difficult part
Most cardiac arrests do not survive whatever anybody does. Debriefing and peer support are provided and are used by everybody, not just new responders.
The training
Four weekends, provided free, and ongoing monthly practice. Nobody attends anything alone until they and the trainer are both confident.
