Independence

Four attempts to influence this in a year, all of them named

Publications state their independence and never describe what was actually attempted. Four approaches this year are described below with who made them.

The four

Two offers of sponsorship conditional on tone, one request to remove a published piece, and one offer of exclusive access in exchange for approval.

What happened

All four declined. The removal request was from somebody with a legitimate privacy concern, which was handled separately and differently.

Why publish this

Because a claim of independence with no examples is unfalsifiable. This is the evidence, and it will be published annually.

Anybody named here was told beforehand and offered a right of reply. Two took it and both replies are printed.
