Morning cuttings root; afternoon cuttings wilt
A cutting taken at four on a warm day has already lost most of its turgor. The same shoot taken at eight in the morning roots far more reliably.
Timing
Early morning, when the plant is fully turgid. Put them straight into a plastic bag and out of the sun until you can pot them.
Preparation
Cut just below a node, remove the lower leaves, and halve any large remaining ones. Less leaf means less water loss while it has no roots.
Environment
Humid and out of direct sun. A propagator or a bag over the pot. Direct sun kills more cuttings than anything else.
