Typing everything verbatim is the least useful way to take notes
Why verbatim fails
It can be done without understanding anything. The hand keeps up and the mind never engages, which is why the notes feel unfamiliar later.
What to do instead
Write only what you could not reconstruct. Aim for about a third of what is said, in your own words rather than the speaker's.
Afterwards
Ten minutes within the same day filling gaps from memory. That ten minutes is worth more than an hour of revision a fortnight later.
