Project

Both sides teach, which is why this works and visiting schemes do not

Schemes where young people visit older people fail within a term. Pairing them to teach each other something specific produces relationships that outlast the project.

How it works

Pairs meet weekly for six weeks. Each teaches the other one thing they choose. Last time that included bread, a phone, and a card game.

Why teaching

Because visiting makes one person a recipient. Teaching makes both people useful, and that is the difference between a duty and a friendship.

What is needed

Twelve adults over sixty-five with something to teach, which is everybody, and the confidence to think so, which is fewer.
