Hedgehogs range about two kilometres a night and modern fencing has cut gardens into islands. One gap per boundary reconnects a whole street.
The hole
Thirteen centimetres square at ground level. Big enough for a hedgehog and too small for most pets, which is the usual objection.
Talk to neighbours
One gap achieves little. A row of gardens each with one becomes a corridor, and that is the thing that actually helps.
What else helps
A shallow water dish, no slug pellets, and checking long grass before strimming. The strimmer one is the most urgent of the three.
