First aid

Back blows first, and most obstructions clear on the second one

Films show abdominal thrusts and skip the step that works most often. Five firm back blows between the shoulder blades come first, every time.

First

Lean them forward and give five firm blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand. Check after each one.

Then

If that fails, five abdominal thrusts. Alternate five and five, checking between each, and call for help after the first cycle.

Afterwards

Anybody who has had abdominal thrusts should be seen by a doctor even if they seem fine. Internal injury is possible and not always obvious.
