Community fridge

Open to everybody, with no questions and no register

The moment a food scheme checks eligibility it becomes a food bank and stigma keeps people away. This one is open to anybody and nobody signs anything.

How it works

Surplus from four shops and anybody's garden gluts. Open ten until six, take what you want, and there is no register and no limit.

Why no eligibility

Because checking would stop the people who most need it from coming. Some of what goes is taken by people who could afford to buy it, and that is fine.

What is needed

Volunteers for one collection run a week, and anybody with a garden glut in August. Those two things keep it running.
