### It will look scruffy in July, and we are managing that deliberately

Meadow schemes fail from public objection rather than ecology. A mown strip along the path edge signals intention and defuses most of the complaints.

#### The plan

Two thirds of the recreation ground left uncut from April to August, with a two-metre mown strip along every path and boundary.

#### Why the mown edge

It reads as deliberate rather than neglected. That is the single measure that most reduces objections and it costs almost nothing.

#### The trade

The football pitch is unaffected. The picnic area shrinks by about a third in summer, which is a genuine loss and worth naming.
