The belief that clearing a pavement makes you liable is persistent and wrong. Nobody has ever been successfully sued in this country for doing it carefully.

#### The myth

Clearing snow does not create liability if done sensibly. The official guidance says so explicitly and has done for over a decade.

#### What we do

Clear the pavements outside the shop, the surgery, and the two bus stops. About an hour on the mornings it is needed.

#### What is provided

Grit, a shovel, and a hi-vis. Grit bins are refilled by the council on request and we do that at the start of each winter.
