Guide

### Most of the popular remedies have been tested and do not work

Copper tape, eggshells, coffee grounds, and sharp grit have all been trialled properly and none of them made a measurable difference. Two things do.

#### What works

Going out with a torch at ten on a damp evening, and nematodes on a warm damp soil. Both are unglamorous and both are effective.

#### What does not

Copper tape, eggshells, coffee grounds, sharp sand, and wool pellets. All tested and none of them reduced damage measurably.

#### The honest position

You will not eliminate them. Protecting seedlings for their first three weeks is achievable; a slug-free garden is not.
