Guide

### Wind is what decides whether a day outdoors is pleasant

People plan around temperature and are caught out by wind. The difference between still and thirty miles an hour is worth about eight degrees of felt temperature.

#### Wind first

Check wind speed and direction before temperature. On a hill it will be roughly double the valley forecast and colder with it.

#### Precipitation probability

Sixty percent means six days in ten like this one had rain, not that it will rain for sixty percent of the day. People consistently read it wrong.

#### Cloud base

The number that decides whether a hill day has any view at all. Below the summit height means walking in cloud for the whole top section.
