Open mic

### A room that listens, which is rarer than it should be

The bar closes during sets and the room genuinely quietens. That is the whole difference between an open mic and playing to a pub.

#### How it works

Twelve slots of ten minutes, drawn from a hat at seven. Everybody who signs up plays; nobody is bumped.

#### The room

The bar closes while somebody is playing and the room listens. It is not a background music night and people know that.

#### First time

About two people every week are playing in public for the first time. The room is kind about it and the applause is real.
