A decision

### Declined, and the figure was thirty-one thousand pounds

Somebody offered to buy the title and the list. The amount is named because a refusal without a figure is a story about virtue rather than a decision.

#### The offer

Thirty-one thousand pounds for the title, the archive, and the subscriber list. A serious offer from somebody who was straightforward about their plans.

#### Why not

Because the list would go with it, and people subscribed to a person rather than an asset. That is not something I think is mine to sell.

#### What happens instead

Nothing changes. If I ever stop, the archive goes to the record office and the list is deleted rather than transferred.
