### One adult in five cannot swim, and the classes are not full of children

The barrier is almost entirely embarrassment. Adult beginner classes exist, are full of adults, and the pool is closed to everybody else during them.

#### What the class is like

Six to eight adults, a closed pool, and nobody watching from the side. The shallow end is one point two metres throughout.

#### How long it takes

Most people are swimming a width within four sessions and a length within about twelve. That is the ordinary rate, not the fast one.

#### What to wear

Whatever you would wear on a beach. Nobody looks and the whole class is in the water within two minutes of arriving.
