### Wrong about the mill, and the correction is longer than the error

Last month's piece said the mill closed in 1974. It closed in 1981, and a reader who worked there for eleven years wrote to say so with the dates.

#### What I got wrong

The closure date, by seven years, and the reason. I took it from a secondary source and did not check it against anything.

#### What is actually true

It closed in 1981 after the bearing failure, not the fire. The fire was 1974 and it reopened four months later.

#### How this happened

I trusted one source that was itself repeating an error. That is the whole explanation and it is not a good one.
