Safety guide

### Kickback is faster than reaction time, which is why training exists

Chainsaw kickback occurs in about a tenth of a second, faster than anybody can respond. Training teaches you to avoid the conditions rather than react to the event.

#### Why videos are not enough

The dangerous events are too fast to react to. What is taught is body position and cutting technique that prevent them arising.

#### The basic course

Two days, about three hundred pounds, covering maintenance, crosscutting, and felling small trees. Required by most insurers and by common sense.

#### Protective equipment

Trousers, boots, gloves, helmet with visor and defenders. About two hundred and fifty pounds and non-negotiable at any experience level.
