### Three years, eleven archive visits, and one letter from a reader that finished it

Most of the three years was spent looking in the wrong county. A reader's letter in March pointed at the right one and the answer took a fortnight after that.

#### The question

Where the parish's poor law records went after 1834. They are not in the county record office and were assumed destroyed.

#### What took three years

Searching the wrong county, because a nineteenth-century index entry was wrong and I trusted it for two and a half years.

#### What finished it

A reader who had seen a similar entry elsewhere and recognised the error. Two weeks after their letter the records were located.
