**Subject**
: What this is actually about, four years in
**Preheader**
: Not local history. Land, and who decided things.
Scope

### It turns out this is about land tenure, and I did not know that when I started

It began as local history, which is a subject so broad it is not one. Reading back, almost everything is about who controlled land and how that was decided.

#### What I thought it was

Local history: buildings, families, and events. That framing produced the four issues I now think are the weakest.

#### What it actually is

Land tenure and the decisions that shaped it. Enclosure, drainage, and the estate, which is where all the interesting evidence is.

#### What changes

The framing rather than the content. Pieces that do not fit will still appear when they are good, and there will be fewer of them.
