Long read

### Nine thousand words, and there is a three-part version if that is easier

This is the longest thing I have written and it will take about forty minutes. It is also split into three parts for anybody who would rather not.

#### What it is about

The 1953 flood, from the twelve surviving first-hand accounts and the engineering report that was not published until 1971.

#### Why so long

Because the short version has been written many times and is wrong. The length is the argument rather than an indulgence.

#### How to read it

In one sitting of about forty minutes, or in three parts sent over three weeks. Both go to whoever asks for them.
